Travel that Nourishes the Soul

Featuring Doni Belau interviewed by Diane Butts

Doni Belau

Owner & Founder of Girls' Guide to the World

An inveterate traveler, Doni Belau has been to 80 countries (and counting). She loves to help other women experience the sense of alive-ness that happens when traveling as she believes it helps us see a larger world of possibilities within ourselves. Girls’ Guide is an invitation to explore another part of the world while we explore another part of ourselves.

Before she started Girls’ Guide in 2009, Ms. Belau had a long career in television production then stayed at home when her kids were young (and is grateful for that), then tried to make a difference in the not-for-profit arena and politics. She started a not-for-profit in South Africa helping kids with HIV in the township of Khayelitsha outside of Cape Town. Doni hails from Nebraska, but has lived most of her adult life in New York. In 2000, she bought their first home in France with her husband fulfilling a lifelong dream.

When not traveling, she and her husband Robert now divide their time between France, New Orleans, and a sailboat named Relish in Connecticut.

She believes in the motto “Never act your age!”.
